BESTEC is an innovative consulting engineering design organisation with a pro-active involvement in the development and integration of Ecologically Sustainable Development (ESD) initiatives within a broad range of projects.

BESTEC’s long term commitment to ESD has been recognised by their achievements in Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) certification of recent projects.

BESTEC has been involved in the following major South Australian Green Star projects:-

  • SA Water VS1 – assessed at 6 star rating, formal accreditation due.
  • IAG Building (Flinders Link) – Certified 5 star rating.
  • Santos Building (Flinders Link) – Certified 5 star rating.
  • Advertiser/Sunday Mail Building – Certified 4 star rating.

Currently there are only 20 certified Green Star projects throughout Australia and hence BESTEC’s contributions are significant. Of the above projects the IAG Building (80 Flinders Street, Adelaide) is the first occupied 5 star green rated building in South Australia. The Advertiser/Sunday Mail building is the first in South Australia and only 1 of 3 buildings in Australia having an as built rating.

BESTEC’s commitments are demonstrated by:-

  • Personnel development program where many of BESTEC's engineers have achieved Green Star accredited professional status.
  • ESD is treated as a separate discipline in the office with dedicated resources and headed by one of our Directors, Graham Dyus.
  • BESTEC also has qualified Australian Building Greenhouse Rating (ABGR) accredited assessors.
  • Providing representation on the GBCA technical committee for the development of the Health Care Tool.

Achieving high performance ESD results for our projects involves an indepth commitment to the process, a team approach to the task and a culture of innovation.

Using latest generation software for thermal analysis, energy simulation and computational fluid dynamics allows us to accurately analyse, compare and develop systems and strategies to minimise energy consumption and maximise the quality of the as built environment.

BESTEC have also been active in developing water conservation strategies as well in implementing waste water and rainwater collection, treatment and re-use on site for potable consumption.

In all cases benchmarking of the project outcomes against previous industry best practice is undertaken.
